What Matters More?
It's that time of the year again - Tackle Football Registration!
As you begin looking for a youth football program for your family, one of the first questions that often comes to mind is, "Which high school does this team feed into?" While that may seem important, it's actually not the question that matters most, believe it or not.
Before you register your kiddo, I want to challenge you to ask yourself a more important question when looking at a program: "Will my child become a better football player?"
Youth football should focus on developing athletes, not simply funneling players toward a particular high school. Great high school coaches aren't looking for players who wore a certain youth jersey—they're looking for athletes with strong fundamentals, confidence, discipline, and are coachable.
While those qualities can be developed anywhere, they can only be developed through quality coaching and a commitment to player growth.
Practices should emphasize proper technique, football IQ, teamwork, and leadership, even at 3/4 grade level. Every drill has a purpose. Every practice is designed to help players improve one step at a time. Naturally there are kids at different levels on each team; some are new and some are more advanced. All too often you see those newer kids get pushed to the wayside while the focus remains on the studs. We truly believe that every player deserves to have equal coaching across the board.
Youth football is about much more than winning games. It's about preparing kids for the next level while helping them build confidence that lasts long after the season ends.
At Spirit Football, our teams are our family - Period. We have high expectations for our players because that is what will be asked of them by the time they hit middle school and especially high school levels. We maintain relationships with coaches from all over the metro area middle schools and high schools because we want to help feed our players into all of the programs, not focused on one.
Whether your child dreams of playing varsity football or simply wants to learn the game in a positive environment, Spirit Football is committed to helping every athlete by giving them all of the tools needed to reach their full potential.
In the end, development always beats politics, and prepared and dedicated athletes succeed wherever they play.
